The matric class of 2022 has received congratulations from President Cyril Ramaphosa for their excellent individual and collective performances in the face of adversity.
According to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s announcement on Thursday, the class of 2022 passed with an 80.1% score.
She said that during the previous ten years, the pass rate for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) had steadily increased, rising from 60% in 2009 to over 70% in recent years.
The findings’ release, according to Ramaphosa, “highlighted various advancements in the basic education system.”
With a 77.2% pass rate among applicants from fee-free institutions and a 10% increase in the proportion of female candidates who passed, he said, more students had qualified for Bachelor studies.
“Female applicants have received over two-thirds of distinctions, showing rising gender equity in education.”
The “Class of 2022,” according to Ramaphosa, had to deal with difficulties like Covid-19, load shedding, and a period of unrest.
He opined that together, we must create a society where students can realize their full potential in supportive environments rather than only being judged on how resilient they are under pressure.
Through its remarkable performance, the Class of 2022 has given us hope for the future, a future in which this generation of young South Africans will lead our nation to new heights.
The pass rate, he continued, “justifies the significant and constant investment we have made in education throughout nearly 30 years of freedom.
“We owe the accomplishments of 2022 to the hard work of students, as well as the dedication and support of instructors, who overcame their own hardships over the year, as well as education officials.
“For the fairly small percentage of unsuccessful applicants, this is not the end of the road; you can pick yourself up and take advantage of a number of options that will empower you to continue your journey to success,” the statement reads.
